Our Staff
I am one extremely blessed man to have the family that God has given me. Kris and I have been married 29 years and have 3 adult sons.. She has been my partner in life and ministry. She is currently studying to get a master’s degree in counseling with the Townsend Institute at Concordia, Irvine.
  • From 2008—2018, Jeff was the Senior Pastor at Hawley Lutheran Church in Hawley, MN, a church of 1,100 baptized members, averaging 300 in weekly attendance. Jeff created a comprehensive system for pastoral care with staff and lay ministers to sensitively minister to those who are grieving or brokenhearted. He began a Mission Partnership with LCMC Nicaragua. He also was involved in community ministry with the local ministerial association, serving as president for two years.
  • Jeff’s first call after seminary was to return to his childhood church of Christ Lutheran Church in Whitefish, MT, and served there from 1997–2007. As the Associate Pastor, Jeff developed a comprehensive Small Groups Ministry and led an intentional time of 40 Days of Purpose, which increased small group participation from six to 20 groups. Jeff supervised each of the church’s programmatic ministries: Youth Ministry, Children’s Ministry, Adult Discipleship and the Confirmation Ministry. He also led the worship band.

Music Director
Deanna Freund

Deanna has been our director of music since 1993 and directs and accompanies the Faith Singers, Praise Team and Hand Bell choir as well as planning and leading our worship services musically. Deanna loves many types of music and incorporates several genres of music into our worship services regularly. She also has extensive experience in theater and is able to apply these talents to our bi-annual cantatas and Holy Week services. Deanna grew up in Wichita, KS, and has been playing for church services since age 10. Deanna has degrees in Piano Performance from Wichita State University and Arizona State. She also enjoys gardening, kayaking, bird watching, and her two kitties.
Youth Director
Mick McGrath
and wife Andrea
Mick grew up in Bismarck, ND. As a result, he is a die-hard Minnesota Vikings fan but also enjoys reading, playing guitar, restoring classic cars, and water/snow skiing. Mick was blessed with a strong youth group program in high school. While attending the University of Mary, Mick felt a calling to assist in youth ministry and began volunteering with the group, along with hosting weekly worship nights at the university. After completing his undergraduate degree in 2013, Mick moved to Arizona to attend A.T. Still University’s physical therapy school. He met his wife Andrea in 2014 and made Arizona his permanent home after graduating in 2016. During graduate school, Mick continued in his passion for volunteering with youth ministry, assisting with the Ignite high school youth group here at Shepherd of the Hills, and returned in 2018 as Youth Director for the junior high and high school ministries
