Make a Difference Day

The Annual “Make a Difference Day” was held in October and was an opportunity for the entire community to come together and offer 4 hours of volunteer service to vulnerable, elderly, or homebound residents at a variety of work projects throughout Fountain Hills. People were painting, cleaning, patching, planting, raking, hauling debris and much more…every contribution made a difference…neighbor helping neighbor! We began the day at Golden Eagle Park  for juice, coffee, fruit and pastries where volunteers received their assigned worksite project and “kick-off” information.

Contact Paul Appeldorn for more information.

Vital Links for Humanity Joins
Awakening Lives for World Missions

Vital Links founders Tom and Carol Miles
are both nurses.  Tom is a Vietnam veteran
retired from US Air Force.

VLH was formed in 1998 leading teams of over 110 laypersons and medical professionals to Vietnam, seven medical teams to the Navajo Lutheran Mission, Rock Point, AZ, and a team of 13 to Biloxi, MS, for Katrina recovery efforts.

Vital Links supported health and dental care outreach projects at three orphanages in Vietnam for 9 years caring for over 400 orphans, handicapped, elderly and staff.  VLH has facilitated month long visits of 40 medical students and specialty residents from around the world at hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City receiving elective credit at their university. Fifteen healthcare professionals and teachers from Vietnam have been sponsored for special training in the USA to return to their country to teach others.

In 2018, VLH became the Vietnamese medical outreach ministry of Awakening Lives to World Missions, a larger ministry with mission fields around the globe.
ALWM  helps congregations to grow a global mission culture that purposefully and practically obeys Jesus’ call to the nations. We  help you start a new mission team, or refocus and energize existing leadership. ALWM Global carries out ongoing ministry in Vietnam & Cambodia, and also networks and partners with Christian ministries around the world to further the gospel of Christ to those who have not heard.
Sally and Bill Moberly shared their ministry and received a donation from SOTH presented by  Pastor Jeff Teeples.   A yearly Vietnam Mission trip is available through ALWM to Vietnam and Cambodia.
Clowns for Christ Ministry
In 2012 a professional clown from Minnesota, Sid Teske, spent two weeks
at Shepherd of the Hills training a team of 12. This team became Clowns for Christ and have been sharing God’s love by bringing joy and compassion to people of all ages.  Nursing homes, battered women’s shelters, homeless shelters, VBS, church services, parades are some of the venues where the team has shared their message of Christ’s love.

An excerpt from The Clowns Prayer says,
“Never let us become so indifferent that we fail to see the wonder
in the eyes of a child or the twinkle in the eyes of the aged.”
